This song, sung in Karen, is about a mother's love being greater than everything in the world
HSAR PWEH
Determined to never let his passion for music is be quelled with the challenges of resettlement, singer-songwriter Hsar Pweh shares his Karen culture with his new community in Australia through unique ballads and love songs reminiscent of the sounds of his homeland. Born into a refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border, Hsar Pweh began playing guitar when he was 11 years old and soon became the resident guitar teacher in the camp. In 2007, after receiving a humanitarian visa with his family, Hsar arrived in a very unfamiliar Australia, not knowing anyone he could musically collaborate with. It was at this point he felt that perhaps his musical endeavors were over. It wasn’t long, however, until the Wyndham Cultural Centre discovered his skills and invited him to play at their refugee week celebrations. Since then he has performed with Multicultural Arts Victoria at the annual Emerge in Wyndham and is now involved in their Visible Music Mentoring Program, working with producer and mentor Ivan “Choi” Khatchoyan to professionally record a song, build his portfolio and receive important music business skills development. Now 25, Hsar works full time at Wyndham Community Education Centre, continuing to help those in the Karen community and others with necessary settlement services within the Wyndham area. He has built himself a home studio which he comes back to every day to work on his music. He now knows that music will always be alive inside of him and dreams for the day people will hear his voice, songs and story.
