about

TJUPURRU
Brisbane-based Tjupurru is a proud descendant of the Djabera Djabera tribe of the West Australian Kimberleys. Born in Port Moresby Papua New Guinea and settling in Cairns, Tjupurru began playing Didgeridoo through a vacuum cleaner pipe in boarding school. His real love affair with the instrument came when he discovered the music of iconic Australian act Gondwanaland, and didgeridoo player Charlie McMahon in particular.

Tjupurru plays a unique slide Didgeridoo invented by Charlie McMahon, named "The Didjeribone" because it can slide through different notes and tones - a cross between a didgeridoo and a trombone. He picks up his sound through a device called the "Face Bass", a seismic sensor implanted inside his mouth. With the addition of sampling and electronic effects, Tjupurru has enabled himself to perform as a one man band creating live samples and looping them to create songs and soundscapes that criss-cross musical genre.

His live show is a must see. This is an artist bringing something unique to the current music scene. Tjupurru is mixing cultures, technologies and sounds from over thousands of years to serve up and dish out what he describes as 21st century Didjetronica.

EBONY MONCRIEF
Ebony MonCrief, raised in Birmingham, Alabama, is a writer, performance poet, storyteller and speaker and has recently commenced post-graduate studies in International Community Development. Her work has been featured throughout Victoria. She has competed at the Australian National Poetry Slam held at the Sydney Opera House and recently made her stage debut in Poetic License a collaborative theater production inspired by the ancient Greek play The Frogs. Her writing style mainly falls under the category of confessional where she uses the written art form as a way to share a vulnerable and intimate look into her experiences, her beliefs and to initiate change from within. She believes this type of vulnerability is one of the essential keys to personal growth. Her vibrant storytelling style engages, entertains and provides audiences with a honest look at the person behind the words. Ebony runs Voice in the Attic, a fortnightly open mic night for poets at Ferdedurke in Melbourne.

EFIQ ZULFIQAR
Efiq Zulfiqar is a superb musician, composer and graphic designer from Bandung, West Java - Indonesia. Efiq has had highly successful tours to Indonesia, UK, Europe, Taiwan, Malaysia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. His interest in music and arts began at an early age and he went to study traditional music at the Conservatorium in Bandung and Bali. His talent and love for native Sundanese culture is evident in his compositions. Since moving to Australia, he has been experimenting with and performing his solo compositions and collaborating with local and visiting musicians.
