about

In 2010 Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) celebrated 5 years of its innovative Visible music mentorship project with this special compilation CD, Best of Visible.

Since 2005, Visible has connected over 300 artists from diverse refugee and emerging communities with some of Melbourne’s most versatile and talented producers and musicians to be mentored and to create exciting and fresh new sounds and songs for the annual Visible compilation CD.

Many of the Visible artists have come to Australia to escape troubles in their homeland and have faced challenges establishing themselves in Australia despite successful music careers ‘back home’. The project has provided unique opportunities for these artists to develop and showcase their musical talents, whilst also offering you the audience, a glimpse of the vibrant and diverse music and culture they have brought with them to Australia.

The Best of Visible provides you with a taste of some of the rare and unique talents and the great diversity of cultures and musical styles represented in the project.

The Visible project has been generously funded by a number of organisations over its five years  including The Diana Browne Trust managed by Perpetual, Australia Council for the Arts, Victoria Rocks, Arts Victoria, the Victorian Government through the provision of a Victorian Community Support Grant, VicHealth, Victorian Multicultural Commission, City of Melbourne and City of Yarra.

The project has been facilitated by MAV as part of the Emerge Cultural Network. MAV, the only organisation of its kind in Victoria, provides opportunities and support structures for artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as offering culturally diverse art to the public at large.

MAV established the Emerge Cultural Network to increase the access, participation and ‘visibility’ of new and emerging communities in the arts. The Visible project has been one of the most significant and exciting outcomes of the Emerge Cultural Network to date.
