about

The Visible Music Program in 2014 celebrates nine years providing a platform for newly arrived, emerging and indigenous musicians into the music industry. Many of the Visible artists have come to Australia to escape troubles in their homeland and have faced challenges establishing themselves in Australia despite successful music careers ‘back home’.

Visible links participants up with established producers, musicians and industry representatives to open pathways and networks into the music industry. In many cases both mentor and mentee are learners, as the project offers an opportunity for both to enrich their musical knowledge through the exchange of culturally specific musical styles, rhythms and sounds.

The program also provides skills development, such as mentoring in song writing and web presence, while strengthening portfolio and promotional materials through equipping artists with a professionally recorded track, electronic press kit and high quality press shots. Performance skills are also enhanced throughout the year through opportunities such as the Emerge Festival and other Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) programmed and produced events, along with performances generated through our artist agency.

The Visible project in 2014 was funded by Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria, City of Melbourne, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship and The Scanlon Foundation.

MAV, the only organisation of its kind in Victoria, provides opportunities and support structures for artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as offering culturally diverse art to the public at large. MAV established Visible to increase the access, participation and ‘visibility’ of new and emerging communities in the arts.
